FCA Uganda recognizes outstanding teachers in Kyangwali refugee settlement
Finn Church Aid (FCA) Uganda has recognized the dedication and excellence of teachers in Kyangwali Refugee settlement, Western Uganda.
On 13 November 2025, FCA awarded certificates of excellence to 42 of the best-performing teachers (11 female, 31 male) and provided UGX 30,250,000 (USD 8,000) to six schools to support teacher savings groups. An additional UGX 80,800,000 (USD 22,000) will be transferred to 16 more schools to further strengthen these savings groups.
The awards and support were presented under the Building Resilience, Inspiration, and Growth Holistically for Teachers (BRIGHT) Project, supported by FCA during a celebration to mark belated World Teachers’ Day.

The event brought together teachers, students and partners, highlighting the critical role educators play in delivering quality education to refugee and host-community learners.
The BRIGHT Project is part of the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa programme, implemented by Expertise France and funded by Global Gateway and the European Union.
The project supports teachers in crisis contexts by improving recruitment, onboarding and retention. It also enhances career development, pedagogical skills and overall teacher well-being.
In addition, the project provides psychosocial support, motivation, leadership training, and guidance to help teachers navigate the challenges of teaching in crisis-affected areas. Support for teacher savings groups enables them to save, access loans, and improve their livelihoods.
Speaking on behalf of the teachers, Geofrey Ayesiga, Head Teacher at Maratatu Primary School, said:
“We feel valued and motivated through this recognition. The BRIGHT Project has not only improved our teaching skills but also supported our well-being. The contribution to our savings groups provides financial support, strengthening our ability to continue educating children in these challenging circumstances.”

Through initiatives like BRIGHT, FCA ensures that refugee and host-community schools have skilled, motivated educators who can deliver high-quality education even in the most challenging settings.
